COMMON CURES PART III

CANDIDA & MOLDS: Personal Experience from a reader – I have experienced a lot of vague health issues for a long time. Recently, I have experienced unexplained itchy rashes on my forearms. I picked up and re-read an old book called “The Missing Diagnosis” by Dr. C. Orian Truss. It first came out in 1983 and only a few copies are available on Amazon.com. Cloudy and fuzzy thinking is a hallmark of Candida!
This book explains how many chronic and recurring diseases as we age are caused by yeasts growing on our mucous membranes in the dark, warm, and moist “cave-like” areas of our bodies. These are the sinuses, the lungs, the lower intestines, and the vagina in women. If we take antibiotics or corticosteroid products or birth control pills, the yeast problem gets worse. If we eat sugars and foods that harbor molds or yeasts, then the problem also gets worse. The yeast colonization can cause sinusitis, bronchitis, asthma, rashes, fatigue, depression, diarrhea, and a whole host of other problems. I am now experimenting with anti-fungals, probiotics, and changing the diet. He used nystatin with his patients as the safest antifungal. Everytime I get bronchitis, I know there’s a mold problem somewhere. I had bronchitis attacks in May and June, and we looked inside the CAC unit in my attic, and we found mold growing. I had it tested and it was cladosporium (a leaf mold) and fusarium, a white mold that grows in stagnant water in air conditioning or dehumidifying units. CANDIDARELATED BRONCHITIS: Personal Experience – The only thing that helps my bronchitis are nebulized antifungals or the antifungal pill fluconazole. Some women working in a moldy workplace were helped by taking probiotics and garlic pills. The pure essential oils of Eucalyptus and Canadian Tsuga also are antifungals—you can sniff open bottles. Some people are helped with corticosteroid inhalers, but in my case, they made me worse—they stimulate yeast overgrowth in the mucous membranes. Basically, bronchitis is a mucous membrane disease. Oregano extract is considered more potent and less harmful than nystatin to eradicate yeast. It is also considered to be more powerful and less toxic in killing staph infection.
Oregano oil is hard on the liver so it is not recommended for anything with liver problems. One pearly daily is best.

CANDIDA/FUNGUS: These are very difficult to rid from the body. Two products have been recommended: Oregacillin and Candisol. Candida is sometimes hard to get rid of so you may need to consult your health care practitioner to help determine which supplement approach is best. Naturally you should cut down on your sugar consumption (starve the fungus) when doing an elimination protocol.

PARASITES: This is especially a problem for people who travel around the world, eating foods from other countries. Sushi and meat are often sources of parasites. A great anti-parasite cleanse comes from Beachwood Canyon – PC 1-2-3. I am told that it takes 2 bottles to completely rid the body of the parasites.

B-3 & FUNGUS: Canadian researchers say vitamin B3 may be effective in fighting fungal infections. Researchers at the University of Montreal say studies in mice indicate C. albicans enzyme, known as Hst3 — essential to the growth and survival of the yeast infection Candida albicans — can be inhibited with nicotinamide, a form of vitamin B3.
“There is an urgent need to develop new therapies to kill C. albicans because it is one of the leading causes of hospital-acquired infections and is associated with high mortality rates,” researcher Martine Raymond said in a statement. “Although many issues remain to be investigated, the results of our study are very exciting and they constitute an important first step in the development of new therapeutic agents to treat fungal infections without major side effects for patients.”
NAIL FUNGUS: Massage Vicks Vapor Rub on toenail and in a matter of days the toe nail will start turning dark in color. The dark color means the Vicks is killing the fungus. As the toenail grows out you will cut the toe nails and soon your toe nails will not only look healthy but will be fungus free.
YEAST & PARASITES: From Jenna Henderson (listed in My Favorite Professionals) – “With yeast problems, I think it is important to change the internal environment, to make it less hospitable to yeast. Long term antifungals can be damaging. I think the missing aspect with yeast is temperature. Yeast tends to grow where it’s cooler than normal body temperature – toenails and vaginal areas. In Traditional Chinese medicine, a white tongue of oral thrush is considered internal coldness.
IMPORTANT: Many people with candida also have thyroid/low body temperature issues. So that’s what I’d look at first.

There’s a book called The Cure for All Diseases by Hulda Clark. She’s from Clayton college, one of the paper mill ND schools. But this book got really popular and convinced a lot of people that they had parasites. What was really undigested vegetable fibers that people were passing, she convinced them were horrible parasites.
NOTE: Hulda died of cancer. Her Liver-Gall Bladder Cleanse is the best ever. My dentist, Nate Berger, who introduced me to this Cleanse advised me to forget about the other cleanses as they were a waste of time.

RESEARCH: Researchers at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston have embarked on one of the first double-blind, clinical studies to determine whether gluten and dairy products play a role in autistic behavior as parents have anecdotally claimed. “A lot of children with autism have gastrointestinal problems such as constipation and diarrhea. Whether these problems are related to brain development is open to question,” said Katherine Loveland, Ph.D., co-investigator and professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, pediatrics and biomedical sciences at the health science center. “There are neurotransmitters and neuroreceptors in the gut that correspond with those in the brain. There are some scientific reasons to think that some kids may benefit from this diet.”
For the double-blind study, funded in its initial phase by supplemental funds granted by the Department of Pediatrics, researchers will enroll 38 autistic children ages 3 to 9. They will look at the influence of gluten and milk proteins in the intestinal function. Gluten is a protein in wheat; casein and whey are proteins in milk. Casomorphin, a peptide in milk; and gliadomorphin, a peptide in gluten, are thought to be related to changes in behavior in these children. Children will be taken off gluten and dairy products before the four-week study and then half will be given gluten/milk powder and half will be given a placebo powder. Researchers will study intestinal permeability (leaky gut) through urine collection and behavior through psychometric testing. RESEARCH II: In 2013 research, it was observed that there is a high inflammation level in the brains of children with autism.

SALMONELLA & E. COLI: new study in SCI’s Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture shows that konjac gum and sesame seed extract may offer protection against different strains of E. coli and Salmonella bacteria. The study by Dr Petra Becker et al from Wageningen University and Research Centre, the Netherlands, shows that these foodstuffs act as binders for E. coli and Salmonella bacteria. The bacteria attach themselves to the fibrous foods instead of the gut cells of the host. Dr Becker says that eating a diet full of these foodstuffs may offer protection from gastro-intestinal infections or reduce the severity of symptoms caused by E. coli or Salmonella.

LOW VITAMIN D LEVELS –Low vitamin D levels may contribute to chronic pain among women, suggests research published ahead of print in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases.

ARSENIC: A new study has found that rice bran contains high levels of arsenic. Arsenic is also found in high levels in the soil in the Southwest US. Arsenic build-up if often a cause for erectile dysfunction in men.

MUSHROOMS & IMMUNITY: Japanese researchers in conjunction with the Yale School of Medicine have found the mushroom extract, AHCC, can strengthen the immune system and fight the onset of cancer among over-50s. CAYCEALMONDSCANCER: Years ago, Edgar Cayce stated in several readings that eating almonds every day could prevent cancer. I know a lot of almond eaters who developed cancer so I never recommended this. This informative post appeared on the

Unfortunately Almonds are not what they use to be, at least not in the U.S. anymore. It’s very hard to get truly “raw” almonds now. The conventional ones are often now treated with a chemical which has been linked to cancer. The organic ones are usually steam pasteurized, which is certainly better than the former. B-12 DEFICIENCY: Years ago, chronic fatigue was treated with a B-12 shot. This is a deficiency that is very common in older people. DEMENTIA: Vitamin B12 may protect against brain volume loss in older people, and ultimately reduce the risk of developing dementia, suggests a new study from the University of Oxford. People with higher blood levels of the vitamin were six times less likely to experience brain shrinkage.

ALZHEIMERS RESEARCH 2009: A combination of vitamin D3 and Curcumin, from Turmeric, may boost the immune system, and help it clear the protein plaques linked to Alzheimer’s, says a new study. The new data, published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, may lead to new approaches in preventing Alzheimer’s by using vitamin D3 alone or in combination with natural or synthetic curcumin to boost the immune system in protecting the brain against beta-amyloid. The build-up of plaque from beta-amyloid deposits is associated with an increase in brain cell damage and death from oxidative stress. This is related to a loss of cognitive function and an increased risk of Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia and currently affects over 13 million people worldwide.

IN VOVO ANTIINFLAMMATORY EFFECTS: Researchers at the University of Illinois found that Vitamin E and other Anti-Inflammatory supplements affected the fetus, by reducing inflammation. This may be the source of some congenital health issues and allergic reactions after a child is born. ALWAYS discuss supplements with your doctor and your pharmacist, who may actually know more about this than the pediatrician, before taking any supplement while pregnant.
Greater vitamin E intake by the mothers during pregnancy was associated with a lower incidence of wheeze, asthma, asthma and wheeze, and persistent wheezing observed in the children during the previous year. Children of mothers whose vitamin E intake was in the lowest 20 percent of participants had over five times the risk of early persistent asthma than those whose mothers were in the highest fifth. Increased zinc intake during pregnancy was also associated with a lower risk of asthma in children. The children’s own nutritional intake did not appear to be associated with asthma or wheezing.

CLINGY CHILDREN: This is not a purely medical comment but rather an astrology one, provided by Astrologer, Pat Geisler: Clingy kids may have one of several problems in my experience:
1) Fatigue, hunger or ill health,
2) Insecurity from overwhelming and new experiences and the lack of sufficient encouragement and support from Mom,

OSTEOPOROSIS: Edgar Cayce proven correct – Increasing the alkali content of the diet by eating food such as fruit and vegetables may reduce calcium excretion and boost bone health, as published in the January 2009 Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. As adults age they become less able to excrete the acid produced via dietary metabolism, explained Dawson-Hughes. GRAPE SEED EXTRACT & LEUKEMIA: An extract from grape seeds forces laboratory leukemia cells to commit cell suicide, according to researchers from the University of Kentucky, presented in American Association for Cancer Research Journal. Grape seed extract activates natural mechanism to kill laboratory leukemia cells – while leaving normal cells alone. Given that epidemiological evidence shows that eating vegetables and fruits helps prevent cancer development, Shi and his colleagues have been studying chemicals known as proanthocyanidins in fruits that contribute to this effect.

DIABETESHEART-L-CARNITHINE: Supplements of L-carnitine may reduce the oxidation of LDL cholesterol in diabetics, indicating significant potential to boost heart health, says a new study. Researchers from the University of Catania report that supplementation reduced “Bad cholesterol”oxidation by 15 units per litre of blood, compared to a 3 U/L reduction in the placebo group.

SELENIUM DEFICIENCY: Low levels of the mineral selenium may increase the risk of anaemia in older people, according to a new study from the United States. Writing in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers from the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and the National Institute on Aging report that people with the lowest levels of Selenium were 11.4 per cent more likely to have anaemia, compared to people with the highest levels. Being the first such study of its kind, the researchers were cautious about the recommendation of selenium supplements, or selenium-rich foods, noting that it is not known whether improvements in selenium intake would have a direct impact on anaemia in older people – related to haemoglobin levels.
NOTE: Dr. Jonothan Wright has observed that Selenium Deficiency can be related to malabsorption due to poor digestion. Often, these people take anti-acids…and they ultimately developed Macular Degeneration, a disease that leads to blindness.
On NBC-TV, the author of MASTER YOUR METABOLISM said that SELENIUM converts inactive thyroid to active thyroid so this is essential to thyroid health.

PANCREATITIS PAIN: Supplements containing selenium, beta-carotene and alpha-tocopherol may alleviate pain in people suffering from pancreatitis, suggests a study from India. One hundred and twenty-seven people took part in the randomized, placebo-controlled study, published in the January issue of Gastroenterology, which found that at the end of the intervention period 32 per cent of the patients became pain-free, compared to only 13 per cent in the placebo group.

MACULAR DEGENERATION: A friend has been receiving treatments for AMD with remarkable results. It is a type of acupuncture that stimulates a specific part of the brain, connected with vision. After Dr. Lundgren reviewed her medical records and determined something could be done, she and her husband went to Santa Fe to receive the 5-day treatment in one week. MAY 2009 – American Medical Association Journal, Archives of Ophthalmology, reveal a protective effect for Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Fish, Nuts and Olive Oil on reducing the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration, a leading cause of vision loss in the elderly.
Olive oil emerged as protective against late disease. When those who reported consuming at least 100 milliliters per week olive oil were compared with those who consumed less than 1 milliliter per week, they were found to have a 52 percent lower risk of late AMD. For early AMD, those whose omega-3 fatty acid intake was among the top 25 percent had a 15 percent lower risk compared with those whose intake was among the lowest quarter.
Bad Fats -Trans Fatty Acids increase cholesterol levels and inflammation, both of which affect the eyes’ blood vessels, while omega-3 fatty acids may help protect the retina. Although the main fats contained in olive oil were not associated with macular degeneration risk, the oil contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that could be protective. “A diet low in trans-unsaturated fat and rich in omega-3 fatty acids and olive oil may reduce the risk of AMD,” the authors conclude.

FIBROMYALGIA from Alternative_Medicine_Forum: …I have read many books written by doctors who specialize in thyroid treatment, and all of them have stated that Fibro is simply under-treated or untreated hypothyroidism.
I do not know if FMS can be cured but it can be prevented if your thyroid is functioning at optimum levels. Have you ever had your RT3 checked? You may need to take Cytomel ONLY for a few months to clear out your RT3 and then switch back to Armour when your RT3 issues clear up, I have heard great things from folks who have done that. And it sure is worth a try for sure, but only if you get your RT3 tested first.

A woman who wrote on my Common Cures posts said that she cured herself of Fibromyalgia symptoms. I think Fibro is really open to this because it is caused by a rebellion against all of the crises that one is forced into handling from early life. The body manifests this rebellion by developing an allergic reaction to the adrenalin produced under stress.

COMMON COLD CURE: Extracts from sea cucumber may one day be making waves in dietary supplement circles, if science from Scandinavia continues to yield positive results. Recent results from an in vitro study reportedly showed that a compound extracted from sea cucumbers known as NGNA (N-glycolylneuraminic acid) has antiviral activity against the rhinovirus, the cause of the majority colds that affect Americans annually, and the compound is non-toxic to human cells.
NOTE: Currently, I take Alka-Seltzer at the first sign of a cold or flu to alkalize my system. This seems to be the easiest. Alka-Seltzer has many formulas. Use the one with baking soda (listed as sodium) and calcium. Cayce actually recommended Soda Mint tablets but Squibb stopped making these in the late 1980s.

NAIL FUNGUS: This is a major problem and one that is very difficult to cure…and it takes months, if not at least a year or more to cure. The medications given by the doctors do not often work and they are very hard on the body. One friend found something easy to do that has helped her a lot.
After a couple of months, she was able to wear sandals again – What I do is soak my feet in very hot water (it really does need to be hot). I add about 1 cup of white vinegar to about 1 gallon of water (I’m guessing here). Then after I’m done soaking them I squirt my affected toes with 100% pure white vinegar (from a dropper). I save the water in a pan and just reheat it the next day. After about 4 days I throw this out and start fresh. The vinegar doesn’t dry out your feet or your nails which surprised me.

It doesn’t hurt your healthy nails either. I also have added Jason’s Tea Tree oil for nails to this regimen. I apply this to my nails after my feet are dry. This seems to help with brittleness a lot and it does superficially improve the look of the nails. I won’t know until probably next year how successful this really is. I can say that my feet are much better than they were. The hard part is doing it on a daily basis 360 days a year! Once in a while I skip a day but in my case I’m in danger of getting ingrown toenails if I let it go longer.
