HOW TO PREVENT CANCER: From KNOCKOUT by Suzanne Somers

Baylor College of Medicine has observed that there is a system of dietary peptides that are missing in cancer patients. Peptides are molecules which are composed of two or more proteins. These peptides inhibit cancer growth.

There are cancer-protective genes that get turned off by certain factors such as aging, poor lifestyle, diet, stress and environmental toxicity.

DCIS or cancer of the breast ducts never metastasizes and it never invades. Many women develop this and never even know they have it – or die from it. This is usually a breast cancer that manifests in one’s later years.

Thermograms are heat sensing and this exam can detect the possibility of a cancer many years before it manifests. Often, by using a progesterone cream over the heated area of the breast, the future cancer can be presented.

CAUSES OF CANCER & PREVENTION OF CANCER:
1. One of the main causes of cancer is chronic inflammation. All cancer is caused by chronic inflammation.
2. Animals with a deficiency in Folic Acid have a very high incidence of cancer. One gram of Folic acid has been shown to prevent cancer and dementia
3. Aspirin, an anti-inflammatory drug, has been shown to decrease many cancers, especially colon cancer.
4. Melatonin is an anti-cancer substance. People who work on night shifts — night shifts interfere with melatonin production and they have a higher incidence of cancer. A very small dose will decrease “sudden wake up,” a common feature with large doses. CAUTION: It MUST only be taken in a pill form – 1 mgs only. I took the liquid form and this accumulated in my body, in the salivary glands, causing my body to be constantly in a Sleep Mode. The adrenal glands had to fight the melatonin – to a point wherein they hardly functioned. I was told that it might take 3 months to get this out of my system.
5. Vitamin D-3 deficiencies are prevalent with people with cancer, as well as Multiple Sclerosis
6. MSG, a sodium ingredient used in foods, is a powerful cancer INDUCER, producing free radicals that encourage cancer growth.
7. Sugar is a powerful inflammatory agent. It encourages the growth of cancer cells through inflammation.
8. Turmeric/Curcumin is a powerful anti-inflammatory supplement. In India, where the traditional diet us observed with turmeric, there is no breast cancer or Alzheimer’s Disease. Curcumin is the best source.
9. FLAVONOIDS attack cancer cells but not normal cells
10. Red meat is carcinogenic! It is the high doses of iron that is carcinogenic! Vegetable sources are best.
11. Blacked meat, charbroiled to black is carcinogenic. It also interferes with the absorption of good sources of iron in vegetables
12. Avoid Omega-6 oils. Use olive oil and coconut oil instead. Omega-3 from fish is anti-inflammatory.
13. Berries that are dark in color contain Flavonoids that fight off cancer
14. Avoid soy products if there is a family history or a previous cancer because of the cancer-inducing concentration of Glutamates. Most soy is so highly modified that its benefits are lost. A study in Hawaii has shown that people who consume the greatest amounts of soy products had the greatest brain atrophies and dementia.

CHRONIC FATIGUE & HEART DISEASE:

There is a type of heart condition that is not detected by EKG or other heart evaluating techniques. This type of heart condition is determined more by the symptoms, rather than testing. There is an excellent e-book that can be downloaded for free on the website of Dr. Sarah Myhill, “Diagnosing and Treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.” Easier to read material can be obtained in books by Dr. Stephen Sinatra (“Reverse Heart Disease Now” and “The Sinatra Solution”). Sometimes an Ecco-Chamber test can reveal that the heart muscle is actually weak. This condition is referred to a Mitochondrial Heart Failure – I have 2 friends with this condition now and another friend in Europe who died from heart failure in February 2011.

General Symptoms:
• Chronic Fatigue (lowering the energy is the body’s way of avoiding a heart attack)
• Exercise makes the condition worse
• Asthma and Respiratory problems (the heart is not pumping adequately)
• Chronic back pain, especially lower back pain (this can also be adrenal exhaustion from stress but this would be cured in 20 minutes after ingesting 2 Raw Adrenal Gland supplements
• Headaches (the body’s attempt to clear out the sinuses)

SINATRA SOLUTIONS:
• CoQ10 (at least 100 mgs high absorption) – this enzyme is stored in the heart (see page 137 in Sinatra’s Reverse Disease Now book) – this is the super star supplement for all heart conditions
• B Vitamins, especially B 3 (non-flush niacin), time released and B Vitamin drops with Folic Acid and B-12. B Vitamins must be taken an hour AFTER drinking coffee or non-herbal tea since there is a chemical in tea and coffee that destroys some of the B Vitamins.
• L-Carnitine provides oxygen to the heart
• Nattokinase lowers blood pressure and increases circulation to the extremities. NOTE: Nattotinase should be taken with the anti-inflammatory, Serraflazyme, and ON AN EMPTY STOMACH for proper absorption.
• Solaray Strontium/Magnesium/K-2 supplement
• Small doses of Vitamin E only as a Mixed Tocopherol, never the d-alpha or in large doses. Use the smallest dose available, such as 100 or 200 IUs.
• Omega-3 (natural only as many synthetics are sold), preferably as Krill Oil
• D-Ribose powder – gives energy to the body and the heart. It is mildly sweet so I mix it with yogurt.

For the diet, it is inflammation that causes the heart attack or stroke from the swelling of the arteries. Follow an anti-inflammatory diet, such as a Mediterranean diet. No sugars and no refined grains; eat lots of green vegetables.

PAPAYA EXTRACT: Papaya leaf extract, and tea made from the extract, contain major cancer-fighting properties, according to new research. Papaya was able to slow the growth of tumors in the breast, lung, pancreas, cervix and liver, University of Florida researcher Nam Dang and his colleagues in Japan found.

AUTISM & ADHD and HIGH INFLAMMATION LEVELS:
http://treatautism.ca/biomedical-treatment/digestion-and-inflammation/

The digestive tract is the heart of the innate immune system. The innate immune system is a barrier defense against microbes. This barrier system also plays a key role in regulating inflammation. Digestion and inflammation go hand in hand, and both are essential components of successful biomedical treatment.
Research shows that children with autism have a higher rate of imflammation and immune dysregulation in the digestive tract. These abnormalities cause inflammation. Inflammation plus a genetic predisposition creates a “cloud” in the brain. Clearing that “cloud’ of inflammation creates a tremendous amount of potential for development.
Causes and symptoms of digestive dysfunction include:
• Food allergies and sensitivities
• Enzyme deficiency or dysfunction
• Leaky gut
• Issues with absorption
Research shows that immune system dysregulation is a common feature in autism. The digestive system regulates immune system and inflammatory response. Healing the digestive tract is the first step in enhancing immune function and lowering inflammation levels that impair development.
A study done at Johns Hopkins, by Dr. Pardo and Dr. Vargos, showed neuroinflammation (inflammation in the brain) in individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Other studies have shown levels of inflammation in autism are higher than those of juvenile RA (rheumatoid arthritis), Crohns and other extremely inflammatory disorders. These studies on inflammation also identify another critical problem for autistic children: their high inflammation levels are accompanied by impairments in their ability to REMOVE INFLAMMATION.

CANCER PREVENTION: FOLIC ACID may be a potent weapon against cancer, according to a report published in the July 15, 2006 issue of CANCER. A small study found that 31 of 43 patients with a precancerous lesion of the larynx known as leucoplakia demonstrated
50 percent or greater reduction in lesion size after six months of taking folate supplements.
 Dr. David Foreman recommends: Green Tea, Vitamin C, Lignans (FOS) and Probioitcs, CoQ10, Lutein, Grape Seed Extract, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Selenium, IP-6, N-Acetyl-Cysteine, Bilberry, Mixed Tocopherols E, Mixed Carotenoids, Zinc, Lysopene, Turmeric. This is a lot but many good supplements contain many of these nutrients. I will change this in the future but it is all that I have now.
The powerful anti-oxidant, CANTRON, is recommended by many practitioners.

ANTICANCER: Red wine anti-oxidant, RESVERATROL, is known for its ability to protect plants from bacteria and fungi, while previous research has also found it helps prevent the negative effects of high-calorie diets and has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer potential. Found in grape skins and red wine (unlike white wine, red wine is made with the skins) can cripple the function of pancreatic cancer cells while sensitizing them to chemotherapy.

CANCERS: 1) Compounds from black raspberries called anthocyanins may inhibit the growth of cancer cells of the oesophagus, according to a new study with rats. 2) The potential of pomegranate extracts and juices to protect against prostate cancer may be due to direct interaction with genes, according to a new study. Researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles report that extracts of the fruit were associated with a two-fold suppression in the expression of genes linked to prostate cancer. “This study showed that pomegranate products and their polyphenols reduced tumour cell growth and induced apoptosis in both androgen-dependent and androgen-independent prostate cancer cells,” wrote the authors in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry

« BREAST CANCER/LYMPH/BRAS: Edgar Cayce asserted that many cancers started in the lymph. This current research on Breast Cancer makes the same allegation. “ Studies show that this is a very real possibility. The reason is that regularly wearing a bra prevents lymph drainage and circulation, which can greatly increase the possibility of developing breast cancer…Researchers Singer and Grismaijer observed 4,500 women and their bra wearing practices. An amazing 3 out of 4 women who wore their bras 24 hours per day developed breast cancer. Women who wore their bras more than 12 hours per day had a 1 in 7 chance of getting breast cancer. 1 out 152 women who wore their bra less than 12 hours a day got breast cancer and an incredibly low 1 out of 168 women who rarely or never wear a bra developed breast cancer.”
There are also been an association with cow’s milk and breast cancer. In those cultures where cow’s milk is not used, there is a very low incidence of breast cancer.

BREAST CANCER & EV OLIVE OIL: UGR News Researchers of the Catalonian Institute of Oncology (Spain) and the University of Granada (Spain) have discovered that extra virgin olive oil may help to combat breast cancer, according to a paper published in the last issue of the renowned scientific journal BMC Cancer. The scientists have confirmed the bioactivity of polyphenols (natural antioxidants) present in olive oil in breast cancer cell lines

CANTRON: I have no personal experience with this product but a friend was advised to use this by her alternative practitioner. It is a powerful anti-oxidant and she feels there has much success with the recovery. This can be accessed at www.contron.com

SELENIUM REDUCES SKIN CANCER: Higher blood levels of selenium may reduce the incidence of skin cancer by about 60 per cent, according to a new study from Dutch and Australian researchers. Writing in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, the researchers report that the mineral was associated with reduced risks of both basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Vitamin A & E had no affect upon the incidence of skin cancer

CANCER RESEARCH: In the Journal of BioMed Cancer Research, the discovery of Spanish researchers of a suppressive effect of compounds found in extra virgin olive oil against breast cancer cells containing the cancer gene HER2. HER2 is amplified or over-expressed in an estimated 20 to 30 percent of invasive breast cancers, and is associated with a shorter relapse time and reduced survival.
ZINC & PROSTATE CANCER: Prostate tissue contains ten times the level of zinc than other soft tissues in the body, while adenocarcinoma cells from prostate tumors lose the ability to concentrate the mineral. These and other factors led Emily White and colleagues to hypothesize that prostate cancer risk could be lowered by increased zinc intake. March 2009 issue of NUTRITION & CANCER.
OMEGA-3 and PROSTATE CANCER: Scientists from the University of California, San Francisco report a protective effect of long chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids against advanced prostate cancer risk. 3/09 Journal of Clinical Cancer Research.

TUMOR GROWTH: In an article published online on April 1, 2009 in the journal Cell Division, Egyptian researchers report that the omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), found in fish and the algae they consume, not only offers its own protection against tumor growth, but improves the chemotherapeutic effects of cisplatin while reducing its toxicity.

BREAST CANCER: Scientists at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center discovered that Curcumin, a compound derived from the spice turmeric, and Piperine from black pepper help inhibit the growth of stem cells that fuel breast cancer.

LIVER & CHEMO: One of the challenges during chemotherapy is the side effect causing liver inflammation. An article in the December 2009 Journal of the American Cancer Society states that the herb milk thistle, which contains the liver protective compound silibinin, reduces inflammation of the liver in children receiving treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

POMEGRANATE & BREAST CANCER: Many doctors find that the Pomegranate reduces estrogen production and this is helpful for menopausal women who are at risk for breast cancer. It is milder than the estrogen-reducing drugs but it works exactly the same way.

A report published in the January, 2010 issue of the American Association for Cancer Research journal Cancer Prevention Research reveals the discovery by researchers at City of Hope Hospital in Duarte, California of a suppressive effect for compounds found in pomegranate on the proliferation of breast cancer cells. Prior research has demonstrated that ellagic acid in pomegranates inhibits the enzyme known as aromatase that converts androgen to estrogen hormones which fuel a common type of breast cancer.

BREAST CYCTS: A friend who had large, peanut sized cysts in her breasts next benefited from reducing caffeine but they all disappeared after taking 25 mgs of Pregnenolone daily. This was prescribed by her homeopathic doctor in the Baltimore MD area. With her next mammogram, all of the cysts were gone. High doses of Pregnenolone are not recommended. NOTE: I have one small cyst about the size of a pin head. I am taking 30 mgs from The Vitamin Shoppe.

CANCER TIDBITS:

• A National Cancer Institute-funded study reported online in the journal Molecular Nutrition & Food Research shows that sulforaphane, a compound that occurs in cruciferous vegetables including broccoli and cauliflower, targets cancer cells by inhibiting a family of enzymes known as histone deacetylases (HDACs) while leaving healthy cells alone. Histone deacetylase inhibitors help turn on tumor suppressor genes that are silenced in cancer cells, restoring normal function.
CANCER & SELINIUM: A doctor appearing on The Today Show said that Brazil nuts have a lot of selenium and selenium protects the body against many forms of cancer.

The Anticancer Diet – from Bottom Line Health publication 5/2010
David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

At any given time, the average person might have thousands of cancer cells in his/her body. Individually, these abnormal cells are harmless, but any one of them could potentially proliferate and form a mass of cells (a tumor) that damages normal tissues and can spread to other parts of the body. About one-third of us eventually will get full-fledged cancer.
Often people who get cancer have created impairments in their natural defenses, allowing cancer cells to survive and proliferate. About 85% of all cancers are caused by environmental and lifestyle factors. We can’t always control our environments, but we can control what we eat. Diet is one key factor that determines who gets cancer and who doesn’t.

Example: Asian men have just as many precancerous microtumors in the prostate gland as American men, yet they are as much as 60 times less likely to develop prostate cancer. It’s not a coincidence that their diets are far healthier, on average, than those consumed by men in the US. Asian men eat far more fruits and vegetables than Americans and relatively little red meat. They also tend to eat more fish and soy foods, and they drink more tea, especially green tea. These and other dietary factors allow their immune systems and other natural defenses to prevent cancer cells from proliferating.

My story: I was a physician in Pittsburgh when I was first diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1992. With the benefit of hindsight — and years of research into the origins and development of cancer — I have come to understand that my previous lifestyle, particularly my poor diet, fostered a procancer environment. For example, a typical lunch for me was chili con carne, a plain bagel and a can of Coke.

CAUSES OF CANCER

It can take years for cancer cells to turn into tumors — assuming that they ever do. This lag time means that we have many opportunities to create an anticancer environment in our bodies.

There are three main factors that promote the development of cancer…
Weakened immunity. The immune system normally patrols the body for bacteria and viruses, as well as for cancer cells. When it spots something foreign, it dispatches a variety of cells, including natural killer cells, to destroy the foreign substance. In people who eat an unhealthy diet — not enough produce, too much alcohol, very little fish and so on — the immune system works less efficiently. This means that cancer cells can potentially slip under the radar and eventually proliferate.
Inflammation. Millions of Americans have subclinical chronic inflammation. It doesn’t cause symptoms, but it can lead to heart disease and cancer. Chronic inflammation can be caused by infection, a diet low in antioxidant nutrients and even emotional stress. It’s accompanied by the release of cytokines and other inflammatory chemicals. Inflammation also prevents the immune system from working efficiently.

Angiogenesis. Cancer cells, like other cells in the body, need blood and nourishment to survive. They send out chemical signals that stimulate the growth of blood vessels that carry blood to and from the cancer.
This process is called angiogenesis — and it can be strongly influenced by what we eat.

Example: People who eat no more than 12 ounces of red meat weekly can reduce their overall risk for cancer by 30%. Red meat stimulates the release of inflammatory chemicals that inhibit apoptosis, the genetically programmed cell death that prevents uncontrolled growth.

CANCER FIGHTERS

The best cancer-fighting foods…
Fatty fish. The omega-3 fatty acids in fish reduce inflammation. Oncologists in Scotland have measured inflammatory markers in the blood of cancer patients since the 1990s. They have found that patients with the lowest levels of inflammation are twice as likely to live through the next several years as patients who have more inflammation.
Laboratory studies indicate that a high-fish diet can reduce the growth of lung, breast, colon, prostate and kidney cancers. And naturally, people who eat more fish tend to eat less red meat.

Important: The larger fatty fish, such as tuna, are more likely to be contaminated with mercury and other toxins. The best sources of omega-3s are smaller fatty fish, such as sardines, anchovies and small mackerel.

Low-glycemic carbohydrates. The glycemic index measures the effects of the carbohydrates in foods on blood glucose levels. Foods with a high-glycemic index, such as white bread and table sugar, cause a rapid rise in insulin as well as a rise in insulin-like growth factor (IGF). IGF stimulates cell growth, including the growth of cancer cells. Both insulin and IGF also promote inflammation.
Data from the Harvard Nurses’ Health Study indicate that people who eat the most high-glycemic foods (these same people tend to be sedentary and overweight) are 260% more likely to get pancreatic cancer and 80% more likely to get colorectal cancer.

Recommended: Unprocessed carbohydrates that are low on the glycemic scale, such as whole-grain breakfast cereals and breads (with whole wheat, barley, oats, flaxseeds, etc.)… cooked whole grains, such as millet, quinoa and barley… and vegetables, such as broccoli and cauliflower.

Also important: Reduce or eliminate refined sugar as well as honey.

Green tea. Between three and five cups daily can significantly reduce your cancer risk. A chemical in green tea, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), inhibits angiogenesis. Green tea also contains polyphenols and other chemical compounds that reduce inflammation and activate liver enzymes that break down and eliminate potential carcinogens. In men who already have prostate cancer, consuming five cups or more of green tea daily has been associated with reduced risk of progressing to advanced cancer by 50%. In women with certain types of breast cancer, three cups daily reduced relapses by 30%. Because black tea is fermented, it has a lower concentration of polyphenols and is less protective than green tea.

Soy foods. The isoflavones in tofu, soy milk, edamame (green soybeans) and other soy foods help prevent breast cancer, particularly in women who started eating soy early in life. These compounds, known as phytoestrogens, have estrogen-like effects. They occupy the same cellular receptors as the body’s estrogen yet are only about one-hundredth as active. This means that they may slow the development of estrogen-dependent tumors.

Recommended: Three servings of soy per week — but only for women who are cancer-free. Avoid soy if you have or had cancer — there’s some concern that the estrogen-like compounds in soy might promote tumor growth in women who have a type of breast cancer that is sensitive to estrogen’s effects. ONLY ORGANIC SOY!

Turmeric. No other food ingredient has more powerful anti-inflammatory effects. In laboratory studies, the active ingredient curcumin in the spice turmeric inhibits the growth of many different cancers. It helps prevent angiogenesis and promotes the death of cancer cells.
In India, people consume an average of one-quarter to one-half teaspoon of turmeric daily. They experience one-eighth as many lung cancers as Westerners of the same age… one-ninth as many colon cancers… and one-fifth as many breast cancers.

Asian mushrooms, such as shiitake, maitake and enokitake. They’re available in most supermarkets and gourmet stores and are one of the most potent immune system stimulants. Among people who eat a lot of these mushrooms, the rate of stomach cancer is 50% lower than it is among those who don’t eat them. One to two half-cup servings weekly probably is enough to have measureable effects.
Berries. Berries contain ellagic acid, which strongly inhibits angiogenesis. Aim for one-half cup per day.

Dark chocolate. One ounce contains twice as many polyphenols as a glass of red wine and almost as much as a cup of green tea. Laboratory studies indicate that these compounds slow the growth of cancer cells. Look for a chocolate with more than 70% cocoa. The “lighter” milk chocolates don’t contain adequate amounts of polyphenols — and the dairy component of milk chocolate blocks the absorption of polyphenols. NOTE: In Germany, dark chocolate was shown to lower blood pressure, improve depression and help with chronic fatigue.
