The Soul’s Purpose Triangle is determined by:
- The Ascendant
- The Esoteric Ruler of the ASC, its Sign and House Position
- The Esoteric Ruler of the Sign on the Cusp of the House containing the Esoteric Ruler of the ASC
*NOTE:* This article contains my lecture notes. I have not discussed the House position of all of the planets in the Houses for each sign. I have done this for Taurus and Virgo but not the others at this time. Look at the House interpretation for Taurus or Virgo to get a clue as to how the House is interpreted. Please so not ask me for an interpretation of your Triangle. Try to analyze it yourself and I can help at that point.

ARIES— The Soul’s Purpose is to create new ideas and to channel quick solutions to immediate crises.
The type of ideas will be shown by the House position of Mercury.
2nd House— agricultural methods, sharing the world’s goods and body movements that affect healing.
6th House— new ideas regarding health and hygiene.
TAURUS— The Soul’s Purpose is to release attachment to the entanglement of materiality as indicated by the House Position of Vulcan. Use 3° from Mercury in the direction of the Sun. Astronomical Almanacs in the late 1800s included this position of Vulcan (friend of Margie has this book).
ASC— Free self from the attachment of the personality which inhibits free channeling from the Higher Self. When Taurus is enslaved to the needs of the personality, he can never be free.
2nd House— Attachment to money and possessions. Do you things own you? Vulcan can help you make a conscious decision to let go of the congestion of physical and emotional possessions.
As a healing House, bio-energetics helps people release bottled emotions.
3rd House— Releasing the attachment to one’s own way of thinking. In TA, these may be referred to as Old Tapes. In letting go of what prevents us from being free thinkers, we can readily access the Soul.
4th House— Attachment to family and tradition and the entanglement with ancestral patterns. Destiny is to make a break with theses patterns.
5th House— When our ego is too closely tied to our children, Vulcan helps us to let go and develop a life of our own…cultivating our own creativity!
6th House— Being attached to one’s own way of doing things can affect health, especially through getting caught up in systems and routines that are counter-productive. An “no one cause do this as well as me” attitude is not service at all. Letting go will lead to true service.
7th House— Let go of expecting others to be what you need or what you want them to be, letting go of co-dependent or enabling attitudes. Look to others to reflect what you need and what you want to be…then integrate this into your own personality.
8th House— There is a need to let go when you find yourself tied to the resources of others, tied to an attitude of entitlement, or obsessing over how anything will turn out… the future over which you have no control. Work with the resources of others to HELP others but do not let it usurp your own freedom of choice – being tied to a husband’s or a parent’s resources, living on a disability and just sitting around all day. It may be easier or safer but it is now productive. This is a healing house and powerful healing abilities are indicated!
9th House— There is a need to let go of old, outmoded religious beliefs and personal philosophies (our view of the world can be distorted and subjective). Letting go is made easier through exposing ourselves to that which is different, the unfamiliar.
10th House— Here the individual may be tied to prestige, status and the illusion of success. Question your career and your worldly goals – is it what you really want or it is the result of parental or environmental conditioning?
11th House— The individual may be tied to friends who offer security but not Soul Growth. It may be difficult to make changes because you use the illusion of security provided by the group. Let go of the narrowness imposed by the Group Mind!
12th House— Let go of fear!! Fear itself can provide a feeling of security – I cannot do something because of my “nerves,” my phobias, my fears! Remember, when the ego dominates, you will ALWAYS feel insecure. This is also the Guinea Pig House whereby one’s own personal experiences and self-discovery are used to help others.
After this process has taken place, the individual can help others to free themselves from similar entanglement. For example, in the chart of Martin Luther King Jr, Vulcan in Aquarius in the 10th shows a destiny to free people from restricting positions, status and standards of living by opening up professional avenues and changing societal views… such as equal rights for blacks, women and minorities.
GEMINI— This is the sign of the World Teacher. The House Position of Venus will show where the individual will express love to humanity though sharing one’s knowledge and experiences.
In Esoteric Psychology, Venus manifests the 5th Ray of Analytical Science.
8th House— Teaching healing, esoterics, dream interpretation and reincarnation – all that truly empowers the individual.
9th House— Teaching spiritual or philosophical sciences and Higher Education in general.
Expanding the consciousness of all people, not just the affluent.
11th House— Teaching and Sharing through Groups. The New Group of World Servers.
NOTE: This sign contains the Fixed Star, Betelgeuse, the Heart Chakra of a Galactic Entity.
It is where we can manifest Truth, Beauty and Goodness.
CANCER— The insecure Cancerian clings to the known and familiar as a source of security. Neptune dissolves such attachments.
Humanity becomes the Family rather than the biological and environmental family. Thus, Cancer learns to feel at home with the unfamiliar.
Cancer rising bestows the Cosmic Memory of Universal Consciousness
The Cancer who can travel a great deal in the life can more easily tap into spiritual purpose.
The House position of Neptune not only dissolves personal matters connected with its House Position but it gives the ability and potential for tapping into the etheric level of that House.
2nd House— I know a woman who can look at the horses at the race track and know which one is going to win. Money obtained from such practices should be used for the material welfare of others.
3rd House— May change the vibration of the name using numbers— working with sound, color and vibration. Broad education and communication themes.
4th House— Neptune can dissolve the biological home. Work with halfway houses, communes, homes for the needy, the environments in which people live— national and global
A friend in Prag has Neptune in Scorpio in the 5th and Uranus in Leo in the 4th. She teaches English in the Czech Republic. Felt compelled by destiny to go there.
NOTE: Cancer represents First Incarnation into the physical plane. It can be clannish, tribal and fear the unknown and unfamiliar. Fear of Separation at the root of many problems. Fear is overcome through the ability to tap into Universal Consciousness, the Whole, the All.
Neptune tests our ability to handle reality – spiritual awareness or escapism.
LEO— The powerful Leo personality will be used to draw attention to the cause represented by the House Position of the Sun.
One must cultivate this personality— this can be dangerous because the individual can get stuck at the personality level. In an Initiation, the individual will sacrifice the personality for the greater good of humanity.
This is a difficult task for Leo to master since it is more pleasurable to take in all of the attention one’s self rather than step aside so that the cause is emphasized.
NOTE: Cayce lost a lot of money with get-rich quick schemes. It was only when he was forced to do the readings did his finances stabilize.
2nd House— Drawing attention to share resources
6th and 8th Houses— Health and Healing activities, not as a personal practice but for the welfare of humanity.
11th House— The Leo will embody the collective values of the group but not become a guru
VIRGO— Being drawn into a perfectionist environment, self-acceptance is difficult for Virgo to achieve. Self-acceptance and the acceptance of the idiosyncrasies or perceived shortcomings in all people will be found through the activities of the House Position of the Moon. The theme of Virgo— I am human, therefore, nothing human is alien to me.
1st House— Striving for acceptance colors the entire perspective. Acceptance comes through letting go of the attention to insignificant details and chores that become a barrier to real acceptance and closeness. Self-sufficiency and control is diametrically opposed to closeness.
This House rules activities with National Implications— social reforms, national issues, social services, activism.
2nd House— Sharing what we have with others, agriculture in under-developed areas of the world. This is a medical House tending to the physical body, body movements and techniques for its maintenance.
3rd House— Fields of Education— nurturing the minds of others. Reform through communications and media; head-start programs, Special Ed – and not playing favorites with those in one’s immediate environment.
4th House— Nurturing the very young and very old, visiting and working with the elderly, halfway houses, AA programs, day care centers, services to improving the quality of life for the less fortunate and improving the ecology and environment where you live.
This is a House that rules grass roots politics, as well as environmental issues. One environmentalist in Prag has Virgo rising but the Moon is in the 2nd House in Libra. Mars and Saturn are in the 4th but not connected to Soul’s Purpose – this means that it is a vehicle for her anger from her childhood. She should focus upon healing rather than tearing down and apart.
5th House— Working with children, helping others to become more creative and spontaneous (Martha…and the woman who made the poncho in prison). Children can be connected with nurturing and acceptance – retarded, homeless, foster care.
Critical people are rarely spontaneous. Creativity helps bring out the child in one’s self. Studies in personality development and the Chakras are ruled by the 5th. The 5th is associated with drama, film, theater, psycho-dramas and educational arenas in which people have fun – conferences, expos, festivals and seminars.
The 5th House rules the upper classes, the rich, ambassadors and the affluent. It also rules education, teaching
6th House— Health and Human Services, Public Service (esp. with 7th and 10th Houses), labor relations, healing services, nutrition, improving and reforming work conditions, animal rights, especially animals who serve man.
7th House— This House rules what we seek in others rather than build in ourselves. When we apply these qualities to ourselves, we can have an integrated personality. Counseling and the legal system.
8th House— This is a medical House— transforming the lives of others, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, economically and even technologically. It is also a House of Inventions. Finding money for those in need. Learning acceptance through studies in reincarnation.
NOTE: Liberating and change can come with the death of the mother – a very intense relationship here.
A friend with Virgo rising and the Moon in the 8th helped others cross over.
9th House— Expansion through expose to people who are socially and culturally different from one’s self. Learning to accept differences through travel, education and the cultivation of inclusiveness in spiritual concepts and philosophies.
10th House— Public Service career such as teaching or counseling…or astrology. Acceptance comes through a public career and nurturing the needs of others.
11th House— This is always working through groups but Virgo is often a 2nd Ray Soul. Therefore, Virgo should never be tied to one group or group ideal. This can lead to separativeness. Nurturing through Heart-Centered Groups. Meals on Wheels. Groups in service to others.
12th House— The is said to be the House of Personal Un-doing. Lack of acceptance, lack of nurturing and lacking in an ability to RECEIVE is truly self-undoing. The emotional handicap we experience creates a self-imposed prison.
The sentence ends when we learn to accept ourselves AS IS – as well as others. In going through hell ourselves, we can learn compassion and acceptance of others. This House is a Guinea Pig house…what happens to us we can use to help others.
LIBRA— As the decanate of Libra is the bridging decanate into the Aquarian Age, Libra’s Soul’s Purpose is to bridge the activities of humanity, as shown by the House Position of Uranus, and to assist humanity work as an integrated whole (Virgo rules wholeness and integration in terms of putting all of one’s fragmented parts together).
Charm and manipulating to get one’s way is transmuted into strategy, diplomacy and persuasiveness in bringing harmony to the Whole.
4th and 10th House— These Houses are frequently political (4th is grass roots politics). JFK and PM Trudeau of Canada had this placement.
7th House— Helping others their personalities— the lower self with the higher self. A frequent position for people who are counselors and therapists.
9th House— Bridging philosophies, religions and cultures so that we see humanity as a cultural whole. Dr. Carol Swain works in congress to move politicians away from the concept of the caucus and towards a National Identity – where we can retain our differences but see ourselves Wholistically.
NOTE: Uranus is part of the Soul Group Triangle and its influence will be important in all of our charts. Uranus expands relationships to an organization of the parts into a functioning Whole with task oriented people. This is where we are awakened to FREEDOM THROUGH COOPERATION.
SCORPIO— The Soul’s Purpose is to get in touch with your anger! Bring up the rage within you and let it manifest through the House Position of Mars for constructive purposes. Something has to get Scorpio angry before he strives to achieve his Soul’s Purpose. A friend with Mars in the 12th House started a home for battered women – their plight made her very angry and she did something about it.
NOTE: Martha Stewart with the 5th and 9th – get angry about injustices.
SAGITTARIUS— This sign always needs broadening experiences provided by Higher Education, distant travel and exposure to different cultures and ideas that seem foreign and strange. It is essential that Sagittarius bring its high standards down to earth, to make them real and practical. If not being realistic and practical, the arrow as aspirations will miss the mark and fall short. PAIN is a force that affects the life in Sagittarius. Life in the 3-dimensional plane is very difficult and different from other realities. According to Cayce, Earth is the only planet in the cosmos that has such a dense plane. There was no preparation for Earth because the Creative Forces did not feel that any Soul would be interested in coming here.
The far and wide experiences will help expel any hint of separatism. The House Position of Earth (180° from Sun) indicates where we can adapt to spiritual things yet where we will experience the pain of adapting to the spiritual path – pain arising from lessons in patience, hard work and dealing with the reality of the material world.
2nd House— Working directly with the fair distribution of the world’s goods
4th House— Making the ideal of adequate housing for the needy a reality. Working with the resources of the planet.
Spiritual architecture (Dr. Jacoby from Germany). Environmental pollution. Helping others liberate themselves from their old ancestral patterns; freedom from the past.
6th House— Providing health, sanitation and proper dietary services to the underprivileged.
Activities of the Peace Corps, working directly with under-developed countries, is ruled by Earth.
NOTE: Princess Diana had Sagittarius ASC*Saturn in Capricorn in 1st = activism, pain and struggle
CAPRICORN— The purpose hind the life of struggling for Capricorn is to learn to struggle! The purpose behind the slow unfoldment of their goals and objectives is to learn the valuable lessons in patience. According to Bailey, Capricorns are frequently working toward an Initiation – a feat which requires considerable spiritual muscle and patience. This may not occur in this lifetime…but it will occur. Initiations require letting go of something we value above everything else, our “fair-haired child.”
The House Position of Saturn will show where you will struggle the hardest and, at the same time, work off old karma. See Saturn handout.
Life can seem far more difficult than it should be when Capricorn is always trying to fortify itself.
5th House— Neglected responsibilities from a past life regarding children are faced that require discipline, patience and faith.
11th House— Struggles with lessons in responsibility in groups and friendships. Karmic ties come into our lives bringing an awareness that we need to change our attitude and relationship with others.
AQUARIUS— The independent, freedom-loving Aquarian on The Path realizes that no man is an island and that no one person is truly free until ALL are free! Aquarius seeks its Soul’s Purpose through becoming a cooperative unit in a group or collective. The 2nd Ray Esoteric Ruler of this sign, Jupiter, believes in brotherhood, the equality of all men, freedom and justice for all without concern for race, creed, culture, status or background.
This is the sign of the New Group of World Servers and Aquarius fulfills its Soul’s Purpose through brotherhood groups, supporting unity and inclusiveness, which serve humanity as indicated by the House position of Jupiter.
NOTE: Jupiter is part of the Soul Group Triangle and its position in our chart is important for all, not just Aquarians.
2nd House— The Salvation Army (with Jupiter in my 2nd, I belong to this organization), organizations that provide food and shelter for the needy.
3rd House— The Voice of America, Amnesty International as the voice of the oppressed and imprisoned.
5th House— Family Planning Groups, Special Olympics
6th House— World Health Organizations, Poland’s Solidarity (working people)
4th and 10th Houses are political
PISCES— The individual must explode Piscean Age myths and cliches in one’s self and then in others. Tolerance in Pisces becomes a fault, as well as devotional idealism that is separative. Putting up with something that you do not like only generates anger, resentment and the desire to control others on subtle levels because you see yourself as a victim. Face your real motivations. NOTE: I have observed that many religious fanatics are very angry people.
The House position of Pluto will indicate where you need to transform your Piscean Age attitudes.
6th House— Especially with Pluto in Leo, the compulsion to serve is often a means of getting attention. Through some medical crisis around you, you become a great advocate of a new system.
7th House— The Old Testament wifely role of being submissive to the authority of the husband needs to change or there will only be power plays in the relationships. Learn to empower others.
9th House— The blind belief in religious dogma and the letter-of-the-law image of God.
Pluto represents the Shadow, part of the Dweller on the Threshhold. It is what we hide and suppress but it must come to the surface. It is what we do not want to face but it rules Death to these fears and transformations.

Scorpio Rising. – Mars Rx in 8th Gemini. Mercury in Capricorn in 3rd.
I found by writing out my anger, frustration and angst through poetry and song lyrics was one of my healing modalities. I find myself unable to write unless I have “drama” surrounded around me. I removed myself from the drama but I still crave wanting to write. Trying to find the balance.
Does Mars Rx in 8th in Gemini resonate with your description?
Your article is so interesting, thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom 🙂
I have Libra ascendant, with Uranus in Sagittarius 3rd House and Sagittarius esoteric ruler is Earth in Aquarius 4th House.. I absolutely relate with the fact that my soul wants me to bridge different people, knowledge / bring harmony around me !
With Uranus in the 3rd house, does it have something to do with communication, make people understand each other or build bridges between different types of knowledge
You nailed it, Celine!!! No one is interested in the Soul’s Purpose Triangle since it was active in the 1980s — but you were born in the 1980s when this type of study wa prevalent. The 3rd is communications and Sagittarius is grounding it in practical, useful knowledge rather than Sagittarius theories (that do not always work). The 4th House is a grounding House – the Root Chakra, ancestral patterns and helping others to break from negative, ancestral patterns.
Yes, Libra is about Bridging — ideas, cultures, philosophies, counseling etc. I have a theory that Uranus denotes our Soul Group and what that group incarnates together to accomplish — Sagittarius is expanding consciousness. We do not always incarnate with Uranus in the same sign but we do if the Soul Group has something to accomplish.
